Before You Begin

You need:
  • An Altoura account that belongs to the organization that owns the scene
  • Permission to edit scenes in that organization
  • A current desktop browser with hardware 3D graphics enabled, such as Chrome or Edge
  • A mouse or trackpad. Many viewport actions use right-click and the scroll wheel.
Scene Editor always opens in a new browser tab. Allow pop-ups from the Altoura Dashboard if the tab does not appear.

Open a Scene

  1. Sign in to the Altoura Dashboard.
  2. Open the Scene Editor page.
  3. Click Open on an existing scene, or use Create Scene to make a new one.
  4. A new tab opens with Scene Editor. If you are asked to sign in again, complete the sign-in and you are returned to the scene.
While the scene loads you see a loading dialog with the scene name, a progress bar, and an asset counter such as 3 / 12 assets. You cannot edit until loading completes.

Your First Look

When loading finishes you see:
  • The header at the top with the scene name, your organization, the save status icon, and your profile picture
  • The ribbon below the header with the editing tools
  • The Hierarchy panel on the left listing every object in the scene
  • The 3D viewport in the center
  • A grey figure marking the Initial User Position, which is where a trainee starts
Try these first steps:
  1. Look around. Drag with the left mouse button in the viewport to orbit. Scroll to zoom. Drag with the right mouse button to pan.
  2. Select an object. Click an object in the viewport or click its name in the Hierarchy. A cyan outline appears and a movement gizmo attaches to it.
  3. Move it. Drag one of the gizmo arrows. Press R to switch to rotation, T for scale, and G to return to move.
  4. Frame it. Press F to zoom the camera to the selected object.
  5. Undo. Press Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac), or use the Undo button at the left of the ribbon.

Add an Object

  1. In the ribbon, click 3D Objects.
  2. Type in the Search… field or filter by tag.
  3. Click an object to select it, then click Insert. Double-clicking an object also inserts it.
  4. The object appears at the center of the scene and is selected. Drag it into place.

Save Your Work

Scene Editor saves automatically a few seconds after each change when Auto Save On is shown in the ribbon’s File group. You can also save at any time:
  • Click Save in the ribbon, or
  • Press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Cmd+S (Mac)
The cloud icon in the header shows the save state. A green check means everything is saved. A spinner means saving is in progress. A red mark means there are unsaved changes or the last save failed.

Leave the Editor

Close the browser tab when the save icon shows a green check. If you close the tab with unsaved changes, the browser asks you to confirm before leaving.
