Welcome to the Trainee Client! This is the Altoura app you install on a head-mounted display (HMD) to take your assigned trainings in fully immersive 3D. The Trainee Client is available for Meta Quest and HTC Vive.

What is the Trainee Client?

The Trainee Client runs the same trainings as the web-based Trainee App, but inside a VR headset. Instead of looking at a screen, you stand inside the training environment — you see the scene with full depth, look around by moving your head, and reach out to interact with objects using your controllers or hands. Whether you’re learning equipment operation, safety procedures, or step-by-step tasks, the Trainee Client guides you through each training with step-by-step instructions and interactive feedback.

Supported Headsets

Meta Quest

  • Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro
  • Install from the Meta Horizon Store, or sideload the app using SideQuest
  • Supports both controllers and hand tracking

HTC Vive

  • HTC Vive headsets (such as the Vive Pro 2), connected to a Windows PC
  • Requires the VIVE and SteamVR software to be installed and set up on the PC
  • The Altoura app runs on the PC and displays in the headset
See Supported Devices for the full list.

Training Modes

Some trainings support an Assessment mode. For these trainings, you’ll be asked “Which experience mode do you want to start?” before you begin. Your choice is remembered if you leave and resume the training later. Trainings without an Assessment mode start in Practice mode automatically.

Practice Mode

Learn at your own pace with guidance. Depending on how the training was built, you may see:
  • Animated ghost hands showing what to grab or where to move it
  • Highlighted objects that glow to show what’s interactive
  • A tether line pointing you to the next object
  • Step instructions with text, images, video, and audio

Assessment Mode

Test your knowledge independently:
  • On interactive steps, the guidance is hidden — no ghost hands, highlights, step text, or audio
  • Images, videos and tether lines are hidden on all steps
  • Informational steps still show their text
  • You must identify and interact with the correct objects on your own
  • If you choose the wrong object, you’ll hear an alert and see “You selected the wrong object, please try again.”
See Assessment Mode for details.

Immersive 3D Environments

All trainings take place in realistic 3D scenes where you can:
  • Look around naturally by moving your head
  • Walk within your play area, or self-teleport further by pushing the joystick (trackpad on Vive) forward, or on Quest with a hand gesture. Some trainings may turn self-teleport off
  • Adjust your height by holding the Grip button and moving the joystick (trackpad on Vive) up or down
  • Grab, move, and rotate objects with your controllers or hands

Trainings List: After signing in, browse your assigned trainings. If you belong to more than one organization, use the organization filter to narrow the list. If you also have access to Projects, you’ll first choose between Altoura Trainings and Altoura Classic (Projects). Menu: Bring the menu in front of you by touching the tips of both index fingers together to form an “A” and holding briefly, or by pressing and holding the menu button for 2 seconds (the left controller’s menu button on Quest, either controller’s Menu button on Vive). Do the same again to hide it Step Panel: Shows the current step number, instructions, images, and videos, with Next and Back buttons Training Settings: Restart or close the training, reset the current step, and reset or adjust the anchor User Profile (App Information): Check the Altoura Cloud connection, toggle Passthrough (Quest only) and step instruction audio (some roles only), clear the cache, and log out Passthrough (Quest): See your real surroundings instead of the virtual environment, in scenes that support it If a training allows resuming, you can carry on from a saved session when you’re online. You aren’t asked to resume if the training has been updated, you hadn’t got past the first step, or the app can’t retrieve your saved session. See Progress & Completion.

Signing In

You can sign in to the Trainee Client in several ways:
  • Email — enter your Altoura email address and password directly in the headset
  • Pair Device — the headset shows a 6-digit PIN. Enter it in a browser where you’re already logged in to Altoura (the Dashboard, Creator Studio, or the Trainee App) before the countdown ends. If the PIN times out, select Regenerate PIN
  • SSO — if your organization uses single sign-on, sign in with your organization account
