Altoura Frontline is a mixed-reality platform built for the people who do the work — field technicians, operators, maintenance crews, and service engineers. It brings two capabilities into the flow of the job:
  • Guided Procedures — interactive, step-by-step instructions overlaid on the worker’s real environment through a head-mounted display (HMD) like HoloLens 2.
  • Remote Expert — a live Microsoft Teams–integrated session where an expert can see what the worker sees and draw visual annotations that appear anchored in the worker’s physical space, in real time.
Together, they reduce errors, shorten training time, and connect the field to expertise without travel.

The problem we solve

Frontline work — maintenance, assembly, inspection, installation, field service — still runs largely on tribal knowledge, paper manuals, and phone calls to whoever knows how the equipment actually behaves. That creates real business pain:
  • Long ramp times for new technicians. Expertise lives in senior staff and isn’t easily transferred.
  • Errors and rework when workers follow outdated or ambiguous instructions.
  • Expensive truck rolls and travel when an expert has to physically visit a site to diagnose an issue.
  • Knowledge leaks as experienced workers retire or move on.
Altoura Frontline turns that knowledge into guided, in-context, mixed-reality experiences that live exactly where the work happens — on the technician’s head, overlaid on the equipment in front of them.

Who it’s for

Manufacturing & Assembly

Complex multi-step assembly, changeover procedures, quality checks, and line-side troubleshooting.

Maintenance & Field Service

Preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs on location, and technician onboarding.

Energy & Utilities

Inspections on generators, substations, pipelines, and turbines where experts can’t always travel.

Healthcare & Life Sciences

Device setup, calibration, and sterile-environment procedures where hands-free guidance is critical.

Aerospace & Defense

High-precision assembly, inspection, and maintenance workflows on complex equipment.

Training & Enablement

Immersive, repeatable onboarding for new hires without interrupting live production equipment.

The outcomes

Altoura Frontline is designed to move real business metrics. Customers deploy it to:
OutcomeHow Frontline drives it
Faster time-to-competenceNew technicians follow AR-guided procedures instead of shadowing a senior colleague for weeks.
Fewer errors and reworkEvery step is visually anchored to the right part, in the right order, with media and 3D aids.
Reduced travel & truck rollsExperts assist from anywhere through Teams — with the same visibility they’d have on-site.
Captured institutional knowledgeExpert-authored procedures turn tribal knowledge into reusable, versioned content.
Auditability & complianceProcedures are recorded, published from a central portal, and followed in a repeatable way.

What makes Altoura different

  • Mixed reality first. Procedures and annotations are anchored in the worker’s physical space, not shown on a 2D screen beside them.
  • Microsoft Teams-native Remote Expert. Experts join from the Teams client they already use — no new app for them to install.
  • Author once, deploy everywhere. Content authored in the Procedures Portal or on-device flows to HoloLens (and soon iPad) without re-work.
  • Enterprise-ready. Single-tenant Entra ID integration, SSO, PIN pairing for shared devices, auditable deployment, and a documented IT-admin onboarding path.
  • Hands-free by design. Voice, gaze, and gesture controls keep workers’ hands on the equipment, not on a phone or tablet.

How it feels in the field

1

Put on the HoloLens 2

The technician launches Altoura Frontline, signs in with SSO (or pairs the device with a PIN), and is dropped on the Procedures landing page.
2

Pick a procedure

They select the job they’re about to do — for example, “Replace HVAC Filter – Unit 3”. The procedure opens with the first task visible.
3

Follow the steps in AR

Each step is anchored to the real equipment with 3D models, arrows, images, and video. The worker keeps both hands free and moves through steps with gaze, air-tap, or voice.
4

Stuck? Call an expert

If something is off, they switch to Remote Expert, search for a specialist, and invite them. The expert joins from Microsoft Teams.
5

Fix it, together

The expert sees the worker’s view, adds the Altoura Remote Expert app to the meeting, and draws annotations directly on what the worker sees. They can also send a PDF, a URL, or a 3D model to the headset.
6

Close out and log it

The session ends, the procedure is marked complete, and the knowledge stays with the organization — not just the person who happened to pick up the call.
