Overview

Pair Device links an Altoura device (such as a VR headset or the Altoura app on mobile) to your Creator App session. Pairing lets the device load trainings under your account and streamlines the process of moving between devices for testing and delivery. Pairing is a short, one-time hand-off: the device shows a 6-digit code, and you enter that code in Creator App.

Where to Find It

Pair Device is in the user profile dropdown in the top-right of Creator App.
1

Click your profile

In the top-right of the header, click your user avatar or initials to open the profile dropdown.
2

Choose Pair Device

Select Pair Device (the smartphone icon). The Pair Device dialog opens.

The Pairing Dialog

The dialog opens and immediately begins a pairing session.
PhaseWhat you see
GeneratingGenerating pin… — Creator App is requesting a pairing session from the server
ReadyA 6-digit code input with the prompt Enter the code shown on the device here, plus a countdown timer
ValidatingValidating code… — after you submit a code, Creator App is verifying it
SuccessPairing is Successful. with a check mark
InvalidInvalid code — the code you entered does not match; try again
ExpiredPin expired with a Regenerate Pin button
The session has a 2-minute countdown. If the timer reaches zero before you enter a valid code, click Regenerate Pin to start a new session.

Pairing Flow (Step by Step)

1

Open Pair Device in Creator App

Profile dropdown → Pair Device. The dialog prepares a pairing session.
2

Open Altoura on the device

On the headset or mobile device, launch the Altoura app and navigate to its Pair screen. The device displays a 6-digit code.
3

Enter the code in Creator App

Type the 6 digits into the dialog’s input. It auto-submits after the sixth digit.
4

Wait for validation

The dialog shows Validating code…
5

Done

On success, the dialog shows Pairing is Successful. — close it and the device is paired with your account.

What Happens After a Successful Pair

Pairing associates the device with your tenant and user context on the server. The device can then:
  • Access trainings that belong to your organisation
  • Launch training sessions you share with it
  • Record progress and completion against your user account
Pairing itself does not push a specific training to the device — it sets up the association. Use the device’s normal Altoura app navigation to open a training once pairing is complete.

Troubleshooting

”Invalid code”

  • Double-check the 6-digit code on the device.
  • Codes are case-insensitive digit sequences only; spaces and dashes are not part of the code.
  • If the code on the device has changed since you started typing, restart the pairing from the device side and try again.

”Pin expired”

  • The Creator App session has a 2-minute window. Click Regenerate Pin to start a new session and read the current code from the device.

”Please wait for pin generation”

  • Creator App is still requesting a session from the server. This usually completes in a second or two. If it persists, close and reopen the Pair Device dialog.

Nothing happens when I click Pair Device

  • Your account may not have pairing permissions, or the Altoura backend is unreachable. Check with your administrator.

Pairing Page (Alternate Entry)

Creator App also exposes a standalone pairing page at /pair-device. This page shows:
  • A QR code that the device can scan (instead of entering a code manually)
  • A manual 6-digit code input for devices that do not support scanning
  • The same 2-minute countdown and Regenerate QR Code button
The page is useful if you want to pair a device without first opening a specific training, or when you want to scan the QR from a headset.

Best Practices

1

Pair once per device

You only need to pair a device to your account once. After a successful pair, Altoura keeps the association until you explicitly un-pair.
2

Pair before your session

Don’t leave pairing to the last minute before a demo or training session. Pair ahead of time so you are not debugging credentials in front of your audience.
3

Regenerate if you are unsure

If the dialog has been sitting idle, the code may have expired. Just regenerate — there is no cost and no risk to doing so.
4

Check network connectivity on both sides

Both Creator App and the device need to be online for the pairing exchange.
  • Sharing Trainings — Once a device is paired, share a training with your account and the device can open it.
