This page is for everyone. Use it as a quick lookup when you meet an unfamiliar term anywhere in the docs — each entry is one short definition plus a link to the page that covers the topic in depth. Terms are listed A–Z.
Adaptive Card — The notification card an expert receives in their Microsoft Teams chat when a worker invites them to a Remote Expert session, with a one-click Join Meeting button. See Join a Remote Expert Session.
Altoura Remote Expert (Teams app) — The Microsoft Teams meeting extension the expert adds to a live meeting to annotate the worker’s view and share files. See Add the Remote Expert App.
Anchor gem — A diamond-shaped spatial marker an author places for a step, linking that step to a precise physical location. A tethered line connects the step panel to the gem. See Anchoring & QR Codes.
Author Mode — The mode for content creators: build tasks and steps, place 3D models and anchor gems, configure choice steps and completion criteria, and preview the operator experience. See Author vs. Operator.
Choice step — A step that presents selectable options, each wired to a destination step. The worker must pick one to continue — this is how procedures branch. See Procedures, Tasks & Steps.
Completion step — The step that marks the end of a procedure path — the final step of a linear procedure or the end of a branch created by a choice step. See Procedures, Tasks & Steps.
Device pairing (PIN pairing) — Signing a headset in without typing credentials: the device shows a 6-digit PIN, you enter it in the Procedures Portal, and your authenticated web session transfers to the device. See Device Pairing.
Follow Me — A panel behavior that keeps a supported panel positioned in front of you as you walk or turn. Toggled with the pin-shaped button in the panel’s top-right corner; off by default. See Follow Me in Operator Mode.
Hand menu — The contextual menu available during a Remote Expert session on the HMD via a palm-up gesture: mute, reposition the call panel, toggle the spatial mesh overlay, and exit. See Remote Expert Hand Menu.
Media panel — The panel that shows a step’s attached images, video, or audio alongside the step instructions. Appears only when the step has media. See Media Panel in Operator Mode.
Mode selection — The dialog that appears after choosing a procedure, asking whether to enter as Author or Operator. Shown only to users with Author access. See Author vs. Operator.
Operator Mode — The execution-only mode for field workers: follow steps with AR overlays, view media and 3D content, and complete tasks — with no editing controls. See Author vs. Operator.
Organization — The scoping unit in the Procedures Portal. Each organization maintains its own independent set of procedures, and the selected organization determines what you see, create, and share. See Procedures Landing Page.
Procedure — A digital, interactive, step-by-step work instruction, made of tasks and steps and enriched with media, 3D models, and anchors. See Procedures, Tasks & Steps.
Procedures Portal — The browser-based workspace where procedures are created, organized, previewed, and published, and where devices are paired. See Procedures Landing Page.
QR anchor — The printed Altoura Frontline QR code fixed at a work site. Authors and operators scan the same QR at the same location so all content appears exactly where it was placed. See Anchoring & QR Codes.
Remote Expert — The live, see-what-I-see assistance capability: the worker starts a session from their device, the expert joins from Microsoft Teams and guides them with anchored annotations and shared files. See How Remote Expert Works.
Rescan — Re-scanning the QR code to re-anchor a procedure when placed content looks off-position. All placed items reposition with the updated anchor, preserving the author’s relative placement. See Anchoring & QR Codes.
Run Mode (Web) — A read-only preview in the Procedures Portal showing how a procedure will execute, without allowing edits. See Run Mode (Web).
Spatial mesh — A wireframe overlay drawn over the surfaces the device has mapped. Toggled from the Remote Expert hand menu or by voice (“Show mesh” / “Hide mesh”). See Remote Expert Hand Menu.
Step — An individual action within a task, performed in sequence. Each step can carry its own description, media, 3D content, and anchor gem. See Procedures, Tasks & Steps.
Step Main Panel — The always-visible panel during a procedure showing the step number, task title, description, navigation controls, step list access, and the tether indicator when a gem is configured. See Procedure Panel View in Operator Mode.
Task — A high-level grouping of related steps within a procedure — for example, Prepare Equipment or Replace Filter. See Procedures, Tasks & Steps.
Task list — The view of a procedure’s full task and step structure, used to see progress and navigate directly to a step. See Task List in Operator Mode.
Tether (thread) — The visible line connecting a step panel to its anchor gem in the physical environment. It updates dynamically as the worker moves and appears only for steps that have a gem. See Anchoring & QR Codes.
3D Model Panel — The authoring panel for browsing the asset library and attaching 3D models to a step. See 3D Model Panel in Author Mode.
Voice commands — Hands-free phrases that trigger actions on the HMD, such as navigation and the spatial mesh toggle. See Voice Commands.
